My brother is marrying an amazing lady in June, and I’m so excited! However, between her side and our side, we have family spread out from coast to coast. Given that everyone will need to travel to this wedding, there were smaller bridal showers in areas where there were family. This helped eliminate some of the necessary traveling. My sister, mother, and I had the honor of hosting a bridal shower here in Virginia.
We opted for a brunch at a local venue, with a mimosa bar and omelet station. We consciously chose to not make this a bridal tea even though the bride enjoys tea. However, we did opt to feature tea-themed items as an accent throughout the decorations. Here are some of our creations!
Teapot Bouquets
My mother and I spent about a month casually searching for teapots in thrift stores in order to use them as vases for bouquets that we arranged. We also used a few that we already owned. I also emptied the contents of a box of loose tea into a baggie in order to use that tea box as a vase also. Actually, I think that was my favorite arrangement, and it definitely got the most compliments! I propped a couple of them up on decorative hollow books from the craft store. The venue let me use mirror plates to place other bouquets on.
Teabag and Champagne Bottle Cookie Favors
I used modified this shortbread recipe by adding a little more butter, so that the cookies could be more easily rolled out and cut before baking them, in order to waste less dough. Don’t ask me how much extra butter I used though – it was definitely not an exact science, and as they baked I needed to pull them out just before they were done, in order to re-cut them with this cookie cutter, so that they’re shape was more defined, since they spread out a bit as they baked. When they were cool, we dipped them diagonally into melted chocolate chips. It definitely would have been more convenient and smoother to use actual dipping chocolate, but I chose to use what I already had. Waste not, want not!
The teabag cookie was made from this Earl Gray Tea Cookie recipe and I used this cookie cutter. When the cookies cooled, I attached those adorable tags that I made with my mother-in-law. She has helped me with other projects before, and I love learning from her and playing with all her amazing paper-craft products!
Even though this wasn’t a true bridal tea, we loved incorporating what the bride liked into the brunch and getting the chance to be creative!
